smurfDDNS
Here at smurf.to, we strive as best we can to avoid the "not invented here" syndrome that so plagues the software industry. Even so, in certain cases creating your own solution to a problem actually is the most expedient solution, and so it has been in this case. Given the demand amongst smurf.to members to make their systems easily locatable to the greater internet community, a Dynamic DNS solution was clearly required. Unwilling to cede control of smurf.to's DNS service to another provider, we've taken the matter into our own hands. Using only a simple perl script and a few modifications to the named.conf and zone files, the smurf.to servers can now offer a DDNS solution that operates in a fashion analogous to the major players, such as DynDNS.org. Never stingy, we offer up the source to you, our adoring public.
The solution supports only the most essential of the DDNS functions, because, well, that's all we need. More could be added with little difficulty, if interest was expressed. Contact flander for more details.
